Greg Casar, who served on the Austin City Council 2015-2021 before resigning to run for U.S. Congress, filed two voluntary waivers to accept small reductions in his pay in 2019 and 2020, per Ordinance No. 20150212-017. The amount of salary waived, could be used by the council member for the municipal purpose of operating his council office, including staff costs.
Additional information obtained through a public information request indicates that over a period Casar’s years in office, as a result of his salary decisions, his office received an additional $5,373 for operational expenses.
